A leading academic medical center is seeking a Research Nurse Specialist to support clinical research studies by coordinating patient care, ensuring protocol compliance, and serving as a key liaison between patients, investigators, sponsors, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Research Coordination

  • Coordinate patient participation in clinical research studies.

  • Assess patient eligibility for research protocols.

  • Review medical histories, laboratory results, and baseline clinical data.

  • Coordinate required diagnostic testing and imaging.

Patient Care

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients participating in research studies.

  • Monitor patients throughout study participation.

  • Assess and manage adverse events and treatment-related complications.

  • Coordinate follow-up visits and ongoing patient monitoring.

Regulatory & Protocol Compliance

  • Educate patients regarding informed consent and study participation.

  • Ensure strict adherence to research protocols and study requirements.

  • Coordinate required follow-up procedures and protocol-specific assessments.

  • Maintain accurate research documentation and patient records.

Clinical Trial Operations

  • Monitor investigational medications according to study protocols.

  • Perform or coordinate pharmacokinetic studies where required.

  • Process, store, and ship laboratory specimens.

  • Maintain communication with sponsors, investigators, and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).

Education & Collaboration

  • Educate nursing staff regarding clinical research protocols.

  • Assist with development of educational materials and clinical policies.

  • Participate in continuing education and remain current with advances in research nursing and clinical treatments.

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, research teams, laboratory staff, and study sponsors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License

  • Approximately 2 years of clinical nursing experience

  • Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple studies and priorities simultaneously

The Opportunity
