Overview

A leading academic medical center is seeking a Pharmacy Manager, Hematology/Oncology to lead and oversee oncology pharmacy operations, clinical programs, staff development, and strategic initiatives.

This leadership role is responsible for managing the Hematology/Oncology pharmacy team while ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant medication management practices. The successful candidate will partner closely with oncology physicians, nursing leadership, and hospital stakeholders to enhance patient care, improve operational performance, and drive departmental growth.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Manage daily Hematology/Oncology pharmacy operations.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Develop and maintain pharmacy policies, procedures, and SOPs.

  • Oversee medication procurement, preparation, storage, and distribution.

  • Manage high-cost specialty drug utilization, particularly within oncology services.

  • Support accreditation activities, audits, and regulatory inspections.

  • Provide on-call leadership support as required.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop pharmacists, pharmacy liaisons, and support staff.

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and employee development.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct performance reviews and professional development planning.

  • Serve as a key liaison between pharmacy leadership and interdisciplinary teams.

Financial & Budget Management

  • Participate in budget planning and financial management activities.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.

  • Manage drug spend and specialty medication budgets.

  • Support productivity management, workforce planning, and staffing optimization.

  • Assist with forecasting and financial analysis initiatives.

Clinical Collaboration

  • Partner with Hematology and Oncology providers to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Support development and implementation of clinical pharmacy programs.

  • Participate in therapeutic optimization and medication management initiatives.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient care delivery.

Education & Staff Development

  • Develop and implement training programs for pharmacy staff.

  • Support and mentor PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residents.

  • Precept pharmacy students and residents.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Quality & Process Improvement

  • Lead pharmacy quality improvement initiatives.

  • Support medication safety programs and investigations.

  • Drive operational excellence and workflow optimization.

  • Utilize data and metrics to improve performance and patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Education

✔ Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD required.

Licensure

✔ Licensed Pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (required by hire date).

Experience

Candidates must meet one of the following:

✔ PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency + PGY-2 Specialty Residency or HSPAL Residency

OR

✔ PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency + 2 years of relevant experience

OR

✔ 4 years of relevant pharmacy experience

Preferred Qualifications

Clinical Expertise

  • Hematology/Oncology pharmacy experience.

Leadership

  • Previous pharmacy leadership or supervisory experience.

Residency

  • Accredited oncology pharmacy residency experience highly preferred.
