Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Physician to lead clinical care at a secure residential facility. This is a unique opportunity to provide meaningful care in a structured environment, delivering healthcare to a vulnerable and underserved population.

As the lead onsite medical provider, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and oversee a wide range of clinical responsibilities — from direct patient care to surgical procedures and staff mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care to residents

  • Perform clinical rounds, minor surgical procedures, and support emergency interventions

  • Lead and mentor nursing staff, collaborating with Health Services and administrative leaders

  • Attend treatment team meetings and direct individualized care planning

  • Ensure adherence to clinical policies, regulatory standards (e.g., NCCHC, ACA, JCAHO), and accreditation requirements

  • Monitor hospitalizations, assist with discharge planning, and identify cost-effective clinical pathways

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation

  • Oversee quality assurance, review medical records, and provide input on care delivery improvement

  • Participate in legal matters (e.g., chart reviews, testimony), emergency response, inspections, and compliance reporting

  • Attend professional development trainings, workshops, and leadership meetings

Required Qualifications

✅ Graduate of an accredited medical school (M.D. or D.O.)
Board Certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or equivalent specialty
Licensed to practice in California or able to obtain licensure quickly
✅ Valid U.S. driver’s license
✅ Ability to work onsite in a secure ICE detention facility (housing both male and female residents)

Organization Overview:

This is an opportunity to lead Women’s Services at a community hospital committed to quality, compassion, and excellence in patient care. The organization delivers a broad scope of medical services including emergency, surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, cardiology, rehab, and diagnostic specialties, serving a growing regional population in southeast Iowa.

Position Summary:

The Director of Women’s Services provides both clinical and operational leadership for a multi-unit Women & Family Center, encompassing:

  • Labor, Delivery & Recovery (LDR): 4 beds

  • Maternal Triage: Integrated with LDR

  • Postpartum Unit: 14 beds

  • Nursery & Pediatrics: 4 beds

You’ll oversee a team of nurses and support staff, ensuring high-quality maternal, neonatal, and pediatric care that meets regulatory standards and aligns with the hospital’s mission and budgetary goals. The Director plays a key role in staff development, interdepartmental collaboration, and strategic planning for the service line.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the 24/7 clinical operations of labor & delivery, postpartum, women’s health, pediatrics, and nursery services.

  • Collaborate with nursing and hospital leadership to support organizational goals and enhance patient outcomes.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies including JCAHO and state licensing agencies.

  • Lead, evaluate, and coach clinical and ancillary staff within the unit.

  • Manage service line performance metrics, quality initiatives, and fiscal stewardship.

  • Promote a culture of safety, compassion, and evidence-based care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Graduate of an accredited RN program

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required

  • License:

    • Active, unencumbered RN license in Iowa or Compact State

  • Certifications:

    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years clinical experience in relevant specialty areas

    • Management or leadership experience preferred

EDUCATION- 

  • Minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing; master’s degree preferred. 

  

EXPERIENCE -  

  • 5 years’ experience in related clinical practice with 1 year in clinical leadership role preferred. 

 

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE – 

  • Current Iowa Registered Nurse license.
