Position Overview

A nationally recognized children’s hospital in Houston is expanding its pediatric pharmacy team and seeking a residency-trained NICU Clinical Pharmacist Specialist.

This specialized clinical role provides direct pharmacy services to critically ill neonates within a high-acuity NICU. The successful candidate will work with neonatologists, physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other care-team members to optimize complex medication therapies and improve outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical pharmacy services to critically ill neonates.

• Participate actively in multidisciplinary NICU rounds and care planning.

• Review medication regimens for safety, effectiveness and appropriateness.

• Make evidence-based pharmacotherapy recommendations.

• Support neonatal medication selection, dosing, administration and monitoring.

• Apply neonatal pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles.

• Consider gestational age, postnatal age, weight, organ maturity and clinical condition.

• Monitor therapeutic response, laboratory values and adverse effects.

• Prevent medication errors, interactions, duplication and inappropriate therapy.

• Provide drug-information consultation to physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

• Develop guidelines, order sets, protocols and medication-use standards.

• Lead medication-use evaluations, quality improvement and cost-containment work.

• Educate pharmacy residents, students, clinicians and other healthcare professionals.

• Support clinical research, publication and presentation activity.

• Participate in rotating on-call coverage.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited program.

• Current or eligible Texas pharmacist license.

• Completion of appropriate PGY2 residency training.

• Dedicated NICU clinical pharmacy experience.

• Strong knowledge of neonatal pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics and medication safety.

• Ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team.

• Strong clinical judgement, research and teaching skills.

• Ability to work onsite in Houston.

• Current U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board certification in pediatric pharmacotherapy or another relevant specialty.

• Children’s hospital or high-acuity academic-medical-center experience.

• Experience with protocol development, medication-use evaluation and quality improvement.

• Research, publication and precepting experience.

A leading academic medical center is seeking an experienced Director of Pharmacy & Clinical Nutrition to provide strategic and operational leadership across pharmacy services while ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and financial stewardship.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Acute Care & Ambulatory Pharmacy, this executive leader will oversee all aspects of pharmacy operations, including clinical services, medication management, nutrition services, regulatory compliance, residency programs, budgeting, quality improvement, and staff leadership.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • PharmD from an accredited U.S. School of Pharmacy

Experience

One of the following:

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory pharmacy leadership experience, including:

    • 2–3 years as an Assistant Director of Pharmacy within an organization offering a PGY2 Pharmacy Administration Residency

Licensure

  • Current Massachusetts Pharmacist License (or eligible by hire date)
