Key Responsibilities

Advanced Cardiac Sonography

  • Perform non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic examinations using ultrasound, imaging duplex, and related equipment.

  • Position patients and operate equipment to obtain reliable, clinically informative diagnostic data.

  • Conduct complete echocardiographic evaluations and preliminary measurements.

  • Evaluate recordings as they occur and complete the required technical analysis.

  • Summarize diagnostic information and communicate findings to physicians and departmental leadership.

  • Perform portable echocardiographic examinations as required.

  • Complete vascular studies when needed.

  • Interpret examinations and chart graphics and process diagnostic results.

Stress Testing

  • Perform stress echocardiograms and dobutamine stress echocardiograms.

  • Perform cardiac stress tests under direct physician supervision.

  • Prepare patients for stress testing, including electrode placement.

  • Explain testing procedures and address patient questions or concerns.

  • Observe patients throughout testing and calculate all necessary clinical parameters.

  • Interpret electrocardiogram tracings for diagnostic purposes.

  • Troubleshoot difficult examinations and unexpected clinical situations.

Amyloid Clinic and Research

  • Work independently within the amyloid clinic.

  • Perform technically advanced imaging examinations involving amyloid patients.

  • Conduct research studies with a high degree of technical expertise, accuracy, and reproducibility.

  • Support the consistent collection and documentation of research-related cardiovascular imaging data.

Technical and Team Leadership

  • Provide guidance to sonographers, technicians, students, and cardiology fellows.

  • Teach both medical concepts and hands-on sonography techniques.

  • Provide guidance to EKG technicians in the absence of departmental leadership.

  • Delegate daily workflow to other team members when the chief sonographer is unavailable.

  • Take responsibility for senior administrative duties and day-to-day operational support.

  • Assist with difficult patients, urgent add-on studies, staff absences, and other unexpected workflow disruptions.

  • Support the maintenance and repair of ultrasound equipment hardware and software.

  • Troubleshoot issues involving clinical imaging and ordering systems.

Departmental Operations

  • Maintain accurate examination records, departmental reports, and clinical files.

  • Complete charge entry through the applicable billing system.

  • Maintain appropriate supplies and equipment inventory.

  • Help manage the department’s daily workflow and examination schedule.

  • Maintain clinical areas and equipment according to departmental standards.

  • Follow established infection prevention and workplace safety procedures.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all personal and protected health information.

Patient Care

  • Explain procedures clearly and help alleviate patient concerns.

  • Provide appropriate care to adult and geriatric patient populations.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Completion of a two-year program in cardiac sonography, cardiovascular technology, or a closely related field.

  • Knowledge of cardiology, medical terminology, anatomy, biology, and the basic physics associated with diagnostic ultrasound.

  • At least one year of professional echocardiography experience within a hospital environment, excluding internships or clinical placements.

  • At least five years of experience working within a cardiac stress laboratory.

  • Substantial experience working with amyloid patients.

  • Ability to work independently within an amyloid clinic.

  • Experience performing stress echocardiograms and dobutamine stress echocardiograms.

  • Ability to work onsite in Boston, Massachusetts.

  • Valid authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification or eligibility for registration in echocardiography through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

  • Knowledge of congenital heart disease.

  • Experience performing vascular studies.

  • Experience conducting Holter monitor analysis.

  • Experience supporting cardiovascular imaging research studies.

  • Previous experience teaching or mentoring sonographers, technicians, students, or cardiology fellows.

  • Experience coordinating clinical workflow or performing senior administrative responsibilities.

  • Bilingual or multilingual capabilities relevant to the patient population served.

Knowledge and Skills

Position Overview

The Director of Cardiovascular Services will oversee all aspects of the Cardiovascular Service line, including the Cath Lab, Endoscopy, Vascular, and Cardiac Rehabilitation departments. Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Cardiac Cath Lab RN.

  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

  • ACLS certification within 90 days of hire.
