A leading industrial automation and systems integration organization is seeking a Controls Engineer to support large-scale automation and control system projects in Orlando, FL.

This role is responsible for full lifecycle controls engineering including:

  • Electrical and controls system design

  • PLC/DCS programming

  • Electrical panel design

  • Power calculations

  • Safety system implementation

  • Network architecture

  • System integration

  • Installation & commissioning support

The ideal candidate is a technically strong automation engineer with deep experience designing control systems from the ground up and supporting complex integrated automation environments.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

Control System Design & Engineering

  • Design complete control systems from concept through implementation

  • Develop electrical/control system architectures including:

    • Hardware

    • Software

    • Networks

    • Instrumentation

  • Perform electrical panel design and power calculations

  • Select and configure control system components

  • Optimize hardware layouts and panel locations for system efficiency

PLC/DCS Programming

  • Design, develop, and implement PLC/DCS control logic

  • Program using:

    • Ladder Logic (required)

    • Structured Text (required)

    • C++ (preferred)

    • Visual Basic (preferred)

  • Develop software design documentation and operational descriptions

  • Implement efficient, maintainable, and scalable control code

  • Perform scan time analysis, processor loading calculations, and network timing analysis

Safety & Risk Analysis

  • Support hazard analysis development and mitigation

  • Design safety-critical and redundant control systems

  • Implement SIL/PL-rated safety systems where applicable

  • Ensure compliance with client standards and regulatory codes

System Integration & Commissioning

  • Support system integration with multidisciplinary project teams

  • Assist with startup, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities

  • Diagnose and resolve control system issues during installation and testing

  • Develop smart diagnostics and fault mitigation logic

Documentation & Technical Leadership

  • Develop detailed technical documentation including:

    • Schematics

    • Network layouts

    • Acceptance test plans

    • Maintenance plans

    • Descriptions of operation

  • Act as technical lead on projects

  • Mentor junior engineers, technicians, and contractors

✅ Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required

    • Other engineering disciplines may be considered if directly related to controls/electrical engineering

  • 5+ years of controls engineering experience covering:

    • PLC programming

    • Electrical design

    • Industrial automation

    • System integration

  • Strong experience with:

    • Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms

    • Ethernet-based remote I/O systems

    • AutoCAD

    • Distributed control systems

About the Opportunity

This is a high-impact Senior Product Owner role within a fast-growing Pharmacy Automation R&D organization at the forefront of healthcare technology. You’ll play a critical role in shaping software products that directly address some of the industry’s biggest challenges—clinician shortages, operational efficiency, and patient safety.

You’ll act as a subject-matter expert and strategic driver, translating customer and business needs into scalable, high-quality software solutions that deliver real-world value.

Your Mission

As a Senior Product Owner, your top priorities will be to:

  1. Champion product strategy through the elicitation, refinement, and ownership of software product requirements

  2. Partner with Software Delivery Leads to translate requirements into features and user stories

  3. Deliver customer-delighting solutions that drive measurable business outcomes

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the software product backlog, including features, user stories, and defects

  • Prioritize scope in collaboration with cross-functional teams while balancing risk, schedule, and resources

  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering, QA, and Delivery Leads to ensure value-driven execution

  • Lead requirements engineering across the full SDLC (functional & non-functional)

  • Support Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, estimations, reviews, and incremental delivery

  • Drive product quality through continuous collaboration with engineering and QA teams

  • Lead system design reviews and contribute to architectural discussions

  • Ensure testability of requirements and support verification, validation, and UAT planning & execution

  • Support beta launches, success criteria definition, and outcome documentation

  • Act as an escalation point for production issues and provide third-line support

  • Execute work within formal design controls, PLM, configuration management, and phase review processes

  • Contribute to intellectual property generation and share domain expertise across teams

  • Stay current with Agile best practices, industry trends, and competitive landscapes

Skills & Experience

  • Strong expertise in Agile / Lean software development environments

  • Hands-on experience with product and delivery tools such as Aha!, Jira, Azure DevOps

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder leadership skills

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability

  • High attention to detail with the ability to operate independently in complex environments
