The Opportunity

An established acute-care hospital is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead daily nursing operations across a Medical Surgical unit. This is a hands-on leadership role for an RN who can combine strong clinical judgement with effective people management, staffing oversight and a clear focus on safe, patient-centred care.

Reporting to senior nursing leadership, you will guide unit performance, support staff development and ensure clinical practice, workflows and resources remain aligned with quality standards, regulatory requirements and hospital priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day nursing operations and maintain consistent delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

  • Supervise clinical and non-clinical staff, allocate work, monitor performance and address workforce matters within established policies and budget parameters.

  • Coordinate staffing and scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage and respond effectively to changing patient-care demands.

  • Oversee clinical practice, care coordination, patient flow and the effective use of unit resources.

  • Identify and resolve operational, staffing and patient-care issues, escalating appropriately when required.

  • Support quality, safety, risk-management and performance-improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

  • Promote staff competency through orientation, mentoring, preceptorship, training and competency-based assignments.

  • Serve as a visible clinical and operational resource, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and providing direct patient care when needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited nursing programme.

  • Active, unrestricted Massachusetts RN licence.

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

  • At least three years of acute-care Medical Surgical nursing experience, including a minimum of two years supporting a relevant patient population.

  • Strong analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to supervise staff and develop, implement and evaluate policies and standards.

  • Confident leadership, mentoring and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Clear written and verbal English communication and basic proficiency with electronic systems and clinical information.

Preferred Experience

  • Five or more years of Medical Surgical RN experience.

  • Current nursing supervisory or management experience.

  • Relevant specialty nursing certification.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.

  • Life insurance and retirement benefits.

  • Paid time off and additional employee benefits.

The Ideal Candidate

You are an experienced Medical Surgical RN who is ready to lead from the front. You bring sound clinical judgement, a calm and organised approach to unit operations and the interpersonal credibility to mentor nurses, address performance issues and build a supportive, accountable team. You are equally comfortable reviewing staffing, solving operational problems and remaining visible to patients and colleagues on the unit.

Application Process

The selection process includes an initial telephone screen followed by two in-person interviews. Please submit an up-to-date CV outlining your Medical Surgical nursing experience, leadership responsibilities, current Massachusetts RN licence and relevant certifications.
