The Opportunity

A leading building-materials manufacturer is seeking a Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer to support capital projects, electrical systems, automation and manufacturing operations across North America. This division-level role blends hands-on technical problem solving with end-to-end project leadership.

You will act as an internal electrical and controls specialist, developing and delivering industrial projects from early scope and justification through design, commissioning, startup, training and documentation. Two opportunities are available across division and corporate engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide power, electrical and control-systems engineering across all phases of capital projects.

• Develop scopes, calculations, designs, technical specifications, cost estimates, schedules and project justifications.

• Lead multiple electrical and controls projects concurrently, driving delivery from concept through commissioning and startup.

• Manage project budgets, forecasts, schedules, scope, deliverables, execution and reporting.

• Review equipment and service contracts and ensure compliance with technical specifications and standards.

• Coordinate and oversee suppliers, contractors, external engineering resources and consultants.

• Prepare bid documentation, supplier lists and evaluations, and make purchasing recommendations.

• Support manufacturing facilities with operational issues, root-cause failure analysis and corrective-action plans.

• Support electrical-safety initiatives and the development and implementation of corporate standards.

• Maintain clear communication with management and project stakeholders regarding status, risks, changes and decisions.

• Provide commissioning, startup and training support for plant personnel.

• Provide direction and mentoring to junior engineers when required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology or control systems.

• At least five years of control-systems engineering experience in a continuous or discrete manufacturing environment; the target profile typically brings seven to 10 years of experience.

• Strong electrical and control-system engineering capability within industrial manufacturing operations.

• Hands-on Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming experience, including enterprise and control-network communications.

• Demonstrated project-management capability and experience managing several projects simultaneously.

• Experience serving as Lead Electrical or Controls Engineer on at least one major or complex capital project valued above $5 million.

• Demonstrated success managing projects valued between $500,000 and $2 million.

• Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, including arc-flash energy and shock-hazard requirements.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-influencing skills.

• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary internal and external engineering teams.

• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40–60% across the United States.

• Ability to work onsite three days per week near one of the listed manufacturing locations when not traveling.

Preferred Experience

• Engineering and implementation of 480V switchgear, power-distribution panels and motor-control centers.

• Engineering and implementation of 4160V power-distribution systems.

• Electrical standards development within a multi-site manufacturing organization.

• Capital-project delivery across multiple North American facilities.

Benefits

• Comprehensive benefits package

• Hybrid schedule when not traveling

• Relocation assistance may be available

• Interview travel reimbursement

• Professional growth and mentoring opportunities

The Ideal Candidate

You combine deep industrial electrical and controls expertise with confident project leadership. You enjoy moving between technical design, PLC and HMI applications, contractor coordination, manufacturing support and capital-project execution, and you are comfortable supporting multiple facilities through frequent weekday travel.
