Job Description

This position is accountable for the development of data analytic strategies and systems capable of increasing the efficiency and problem-solving capabilities within BCS.

Description - External

Organize, construct, and deploy systems capable of analyzing and displaying large amounts of data in formats that meet the organizational requirements.

Lead technical projects with diverse teams while staying on-time and within budget.

Communicate processes and findings effectively at all levels of the organization.

Engage the organization deeper into problem solving efforts utilizing performance metrics, cost components, quality data, design parameters, machine parameters, process characteristics, etc., using various tools including but not limited to:

Business Intelligence Suites

Databases

Reporting Tools

Statistical Analytical Software

Perform “what if” analysis and communicate recommendations to both operational and IT leaders.

Collaborate with other Engineers and IT resources to maximize use of manufacturing systems.

Identify and correct data limitations (e.g. signal / noise ratio, sample size, inconsistencies, missing values, corruption, etc.).

Design and implement dashboards and key metric scorecards.

Determine potential causes of problems and devise data testing methodologies for validation.

Search and probe questions with peers and process experts that ultimately leads to action and recommendations.

Guide and direct small teams to achieve project objectives including the set up and execution of smart manufacturing deployment across multiple locations. 

Streamline and improve existing data analytics tools within the continuous improvement processes and systems.

Use data, best practices and Kaizen methodologies to increase process efficiency and reduce operational cost.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Minimum of 2 years of experience with data systems processes and improvement strategies

At least 1 year experience in one or more of the following: Matlab, Statistics and Machine Learning, Neural Networks, R, Capstone DataPARC, modeFrontier, Azure, Power BI, Crystal Reports, SQL, SQL Report building Software, .Net or equivalents.

At least 1 year Microsoft Office experience especially with Teams, Excel and Powerpoint

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Data Science or related field.

Experience in various data systems and the ability to tailor and present data analytics methods and findings to leadership to drive effective decision making.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and use structured approaches to identify root causes and recommend solutions.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with SMART Manufacturing or Industry 4.0.

Our team in Space and Defense - Power & Data is looking for a Lead Power Electronics Engineer to join them. You will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager and will have an onsite, with flexible work schedule in Blacksburg, Virginia.

 

To be considered for Lead Power Electronics Engineer, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

•           Bachelor of Science degree in EE or similar

•           7 years of power electronics experience.

As a Lead Power Electronics Engineer, you will:

Be responsible for circuit-level design, simulation, and troubleshooting to support power supply and inverter applications.

Applications are varied, from low-voltage, low-power Point of Load supplies for the electronics boards embedded in our products to high-power resonant converters for our next-generation Non-Contacting Power Transmission systems.

Applications range from 10W to 10kW+.; Current project portfolio includes High Efficiency Resonant architectures for wireless power transfer, Wide bandgap power converters in several AC/DC, DC/DC and bidirectional applications including Generator power Converter, Gimbal motor drive, etc.

·           Direct small team on Power electronics projects.

·           Read and interpret customer specifications and understand how the specification applies to the electronics

·           Use thermal design skills to select component packages and design appropriate thermal interfaces

·           Circuit design for electro-magnetic interference and susceptibility attenuation

·           Select/analyze/test/document electronic component suitability to support new products and existing product lines.

Job Description

Our designs, manufactures, markets, and implements High Voltage Underground Cable and Systems in North America. The High Voltage Cable team places high value on supporting the renewable energy market segment.

This High Voltage Cable Design Engineering position encompasses the design and analysis of parts, components, assemblies, and subassemblies of underground HV/EHV transmission cable systems, and the production of associated drawings and instructions.

Under limited direction, this individual will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering plus an understanding of related high-voltage equipment and engineering aspects to cost effectively achieve objectives. Individual will proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.

 

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

•Design complete cable system solutions, including accessories, link boxes, fiber optic components, grounding details and bonding schemes for voltage classes 69kV up to 500kV, using advanced computer programs, analytical techniques or control strategies to effectively meet project/bid requirements.

•Review customer specifications to determine feasibility and compliance.

•Conduct the preparation of specifications, proposals for contracts, licensing and safety documents, and obtain required approvals in cooperation with the Sales & Marketing and Project Management teams.

•Support manufacturing throughout the production cycle. This includes creating testing plans, leading design handover meetings and solving problems on the manufacturing floor.

•Execute Research & Development projects including planning, timeline forecast, budget management, logistics coordination using the “Stage Gate” process.

•Represent the group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to provide training seminars as well as resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.

•Make formal technical presentations to customers and to industry forums and at conferences.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

•Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering plus 3 years of experience, or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.

•Understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines to analyze and resolve problems. Working knowledge of underground power transmission engineering discipline is a plus.

•Familiarity with ICEA, AEIC, IEC and IEEE standards, as well as thermal, mechanical and electrical field calculations

•Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings.

•Strong technical writing ability and solid communication skills. Requires ability to interface effectively both internally and with customers.

•Experience with software packages including Cymcap, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab and Microsoft Office Suite.

•Proficiency in visual basic and similar programming languages, primarily for use in coding spreadsheets and macros within Microsoft Excel
