Role Overview

We are seeking a Digital Manufacturing Engineer (MES) to join a corporate Advanced Manufacturing team driving digital transformation across multiple manufacturing sites.

This role focuses on building and integrating shop-floor digital solutions that enable manufacturing teams to operate more efficiently, accurately, and intelligently. You will solve complex operational challenges using MES, analytics, and enterprise integration — while leading projects and mentoring others.

This is a hands-on, high-impact engineering role at the center of a broader digitalization strategy.

What You’ll Be Doing

🔹 MES & Shop-Floor Application Development

  • Build and deploy Tulip applications with MES as a primary focus

  • Integrate MES platforms with enterprise systems such as:

    • SAP

    • CMMS

    • Other operational platforms

  • Support troubleshooting and continuous improvement of deployed MES systems

🔹 Data & Analytics

  • Design and maintain dashboards using:

    • Power BI

    • Tulip Analytics

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of manufacturing data

  • Develop cloud-based reporting and analytics solutions

🔹 OT & Enterprise Integration

  • Integrate OT systems with enterprise platforms using:

    • REST APIs

    • OPC

    • MQTT

  • Work with PLCs, SCADA, QMS, and data historians

  • Support lab testing and onsite proof-of-concept initiatives

🔹 Continuous Improvement & Support

  • Support end-of-line test cell enhancements

  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support

  • Lead training and knowledge transfer sessions for operations teams

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and scope changes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in:

    • Engineering

    • Industrial Technology

    • Business (with relevant experience)

  • 5+ years of progressive experience supporting manufacturing technology

  • Hands-on experience designing or supporting shop-floor software solutions

  • Experience working with MES platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing technical projects (requirements, budgets, timelines)

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing systems including:

    • MES

    • QMS

    • PLCs

    • SCADA

    • Data Historians

    • CMMS

  • Programming experience in:

    • Python

    • JavaScript

    • C#

  • Strong SQL experience (complex queries, stored procedures, triggers)

  • Experience with OPC servers and industrial data tags

  • Experience integrating OT systems with enterprise platforms

  • Cloud-based analytics/reporting experience

  • Ability to lead workshops and gather complex manufacturing requirements

Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related technical field preferred.

Technical Skills:

Principal Automation Engineer / Senior Engineer, Automation

This role involves leveraging advanced expertise in automation engineering, particularly with Allen Bradley systems, and troubleshooting within the Rockwell platform. Core responsibilities include working with PLCs, AVEVA system platforms, HMIs, AB panel views, and a variety of automation communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP. You will also handle automation integration principles, cascade controls, and electrical troubleshooting in both low and high-voltage PLC control panels.

Key aspects include:

  • Applying knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and AVEVA System platforms for process integrations, including MES machine integration.

  • Collaborating with engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing teams to optimize equipment performance.

  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and providing hands-on troubleshooting for various production and utility systems.

The role requires proficiency in systems used in upstream and downstream processes, including antigen fermentation, CIP/SIP, WFI, filling, and lyophilization automation. Additional tasks include conducting training on utility equipment and entering maintenance work orders to ensure timely repairs and upgrades.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Allen Bradley systems, automation communication protocols, and PLC control panels.

  • Provide technical support during off-shift and weekend hours as needed.

  • Assist with packaging engineering projects and provide training on electro-mechanical systems.

Qualifications

Principal Engineer, Automation:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical) or related field preferred, with at least 4 years of professional experience.

  • Alternatively, 6 years with a relevant Associate degree or 8 years with a HS diploma/GED.

Senior Engineer, Automation:

  • HS diploma/GED and 7+ years of relevant experience, or 2 years of experience with a relevant Bachelor’s degree.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting automation communication protocols, electrical prints, and integration principles.

  • Familiarity with working in a cGMP or similar regulated environment.

  • Must be 18 years or older, authorized to work in the U.S., and willing to undergo pre-employment screenings.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Principal Engineer: Base salary typically between $95,000 and $130,000.

  • Senior Engineer: Base salary typically between $75,000 and $95,000.
