Position Overview

A global specialty-chemicals and advanced-materials organization is seeking an accomplished Principal Epoxy Chemist to lead the development and commercialization of innovative 1K and 2K epoxy adhesive systems.

The role focuses particularly on UV/light-stable epoxy formulations for outdoor applications requiring long-term durability, weatherability and resistance to sunlight and environmental degradation. Experience limited to UV-curable adhesives or coatings will not satisfy this requirement.

Key Responsibilities

β€’ Design, formulate and optimize advanced 1K and 2K epoxy adhesive systems.

β€’ Lead development of UV/light-stable formulations for outdoor applications.

β€’ Improve resistance to sunlight, heat, moisture and environmental exposure.

β€’ Select and evaluate epoxy resins, hardeners, curing agents, catalysts, accelerators, fillers, tougheners and stabilizers.

β€’ Apply structure-property relationships to optimize adhesion, cure, strength, toughness and durability.

β€’ Design experiments, analyze results and establish technically sound conclusions.

β€’ Lead product-development programs from feasibility through testing, scale-up, manufacturing transfer and commercial launch.

β€’ Define performance specifications and validate products against customer and application requirements.

β€’ Partner with manufacturing, engineering, marketing, regulatory and commercial teams.

β€’ Troubleshoot formulation, scale-up, processing and customer-application issues.

β€’ Generate intellectual property, invention disclosures and technical documentation.

β€’ Mentor junior scientists and provide technical leadership across global project teams.

Required Qualifications

β€’ Advanced degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related discipline, or equivalent extensive industry experience.

β€’ Deep professional experience developing epoxy adhesive systems.

β€’ Demonstrated formulation expertise with 1K and 2K epoxies.

β€’ Direct experience developing epoxy systems that remain stable under UV/light exposure.

β€’ Strong understanding of polymer chemistry, curing mechanisms, degradation and stabilization.

β€’ Experience taking products from laboratory concept through scale-up and commercialization.

β€’ Strong experimental design, data analysis and technical problem-solving skills.

β€’ Ability to lead complex programs without formal management authority.

β€’ Excellent written, verbal and technical-presentation skills.

β€’ Current authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

β€’ Experience with structural adhesives used outdoors or in demanding industrial environments.

β€’ Knowledge of rheology, thermal analysis, spectroscopy, mechanical testing and accelerated weathering.

β€’ Patent, publication or intellectual-property experience.

β€’ Experience collaborating with customers and global technical teams.

Job Description:

 

The Sr. High Voltage Cable Design Engineer is responsible for designing and analyzing parts, components, assemblies, and subassemblies for underground HV/EHV transmission cable systems. This position involves preparing engineering drawings, production specifications, and schedules, and modifying contracts to ensure customer technical requirements are met. Additionally, the engineer will develop application notes, test applications, and provide technical expertise to support customer applications.

 

Responsibilities:

 

-          Assist customers in identifying technical specifications and determining required documentation for product integration into customer applications

-          Prepare engineering drawings, production specifications, schedules, and contract modifications to meet customer requirements

-          Develop application notes to clearly explain how products should be used in customer applications

-          Design complete cable system solutions, including accessories, link boxes, fiber optic components, grounding details, and bonding schemes for voltage classes ranging from 69kV to 500kV

-          Lead the preparation of specifications, proposals for contracts, and safety documents, and cooperate with Sales, Marketing, and Project Management teams to obtain necessary approvals

-          Support manufacturing throughout the production cycle, including creating testing plans, conducting design handovers, and troubleshooting on the manufacturing floor

-          Lead or collaborate on investigations of technical issues, develop solutions, and prepare recommendations and reports

-          Execute Research & Development projects, including planning, forecasting timelines, managing budgets, and coordinating logistics using the "Stage Gate" process

-          Represent the engineering group at meetings, conferences, and training seminars, and provide technical presentations to customers and industry forums

-          Train and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on projects and calculations

-          Promote workplace safety by adhering to the company’s safety culture and standards

 

Qualifications:

 

-          Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field plus 10 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and demonstrated accomplishments

-          Strong working knowledge of underground power transmission engineering and related disciplines

-          Proficiency in ICEA, AEIC, IEC, and IEEE standards, as well as thermal, mechanical, and electrical field calculations

-          Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings

-          Strong technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to interact with customers and internal teams

-          Expertise in software packages such as Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD, Pull Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite

-          In-depth knowledge of cable materials, testing processes, and the power transmission cable industry

-          Proficiency in Visual Basic and similar programming languages, especially for creating macros and coding spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel
