You’ll work closely with R&D, operations, and commercial teams to turn ideas into market-ready products — driving both performance and sustainability across the company’s global adhesive division.

🧠 What You’ll Be Doing

Product Development & Commercialization

  • Conceive, formulate, and test new adhesive and coating technologies.

  • Conduct plant trials to ensure successful scale-up and commercialization at customer sites.

  • Collaborate with production teams to transition newly developed products into full-scale manufacturing.

Business & Technical Collaboration

  • Partner with sales and business development to identify customer opportunities and provide technical assessments.

  • Leverage emerging adhesive technologies to expand into new industries, markets, and customers.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to leadership, sales, and customer stakeholders.

Process & Quality Optimization

  • Use Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and analytical troubleshooting to enhance performance and reduce costs.

  • Support supply chain in evaluating and qualifying new raw material and additive vendors.

  • Lead or assist quality assurance initiatives to identify root causes and implement long-term corrective actions.

Innovation & Intellectual Property

  • Stay ahead of industry trends and technologies, assessing feasibility for future applications.

  • Maintain accurate documentation on intellectual property, supporting patent filings and trade secret protection.

🎓 What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science, or a related technical discipline.
5+ years’ experience in formulating water-based adhesives (experience in paperboard or food-grade packaging highly desirable).

✅ Strong hands-on capabilities, willing to conduct bench or trial work independently.

Job Description

This position is under the direction of the R&D Manager for the Rigid Plastics Packaging division that includes developing, designing, and qualifying new thermoplastic materials and processes for our Plastics end use markets.  The individual will be instrumental in identifying sustainable packaging solutions for our customers by taking ideas and technical insights through a comprehensive process to drive growth in the marketplace.  In addition, this senior level engineer will drive projects to increase productivity, capacity, and efficiency across our manufacturing plants.

 

What you’ll be doing:

·        Be a subject matter expert in plastic materials and additives

·        Address internal and external customer needs and packaging opportunities in a manufacturing setting

·        Provide creative solutions to new and existing packaging problems involving materials and processes in a timely and cost-effective manner

·        Originate new ideas to support the R&D product innovation and technology strategy

·        Participate in regular portfolio review meetings to ensure proper balance in portfolio along with consensus on priorities

·        Manage the technical integration of projects through collaboration with suppliers, internal cross-functional teams, and customers to assure performance criteria are met

·        Establish an environment which motivates and engages others in the R&D organization to achieve desired results

·        Foster a positive, safe work environment through open communication and an atmosphere of teamwork

·        Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures to protect all employees

 

We’d love to hear from you if:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Plastics Engineering, Chemistry; Master’s degree preferred

·        5+ years of related experience with a strong technical background in plastics, resins, coatings, and laminates including extensive knowledge in material analysis and testing

·        Processing experience in extrusion, thermoforming, and injection molding, experience in consumer-based food packaging is a plus

·        Results driven with a high level of personal initiative, energy, and ownership for success

·        Inquisitive mind, actively staying aware of new and developing technologies inside and outside of the industry

·        Self-starter with a positive “can do” attitude and able to work independently

·        Experience leading projects working across different functions in the organization (e.g., commercial, manufacturing, supply management)

·        Strong technical capability & problem-solving skills

·        Effective communication skills both written and verbal

·        Ability to work in a fast-paced, results orientated environment

·        Highly organized and self-motivated with a hands-on work ethic

·        The annual base salary range for this role is from $104,325.00 to $125,190.00

Our company is recruiting a Project Manager to join our growing OWN Business Unit! This is a hybrid role. Candidates will be based in the US near a company office, preferably near: Shakopee, MN, Lisle, IL, or Richardson, TX.

 

How You Will Make An Impact:

 

·        The Project Manager will be an integral member of the Heliax R&D team.

·        Partner with PLM and design team to develop scope/specification, cost target, schedules, etc.

·        Build project plans to ensure time frame, technical requirements, and project team remain within design budget, quality, and schedule agreements

·        Lead cross functional teams, including: design and process engineering, quality, material planning, and purchasing to ensure product readiness through design to production

·        Collaborate with planning and procurement to build product and component demand, forecasting, supporting product development/R&D

·        Lead engineering activities to support PLM and procurement with customer samples

·        Create and present project reports and status updates to senior management

·        Provide continuous assessments of project management best practices to ensure new, innovative project management practices can be applied to all the product development process

 

Required Qualifications For Consideration:

·        4+ years experience in project/program management

·        3+ years experience leading cross functional teams

·        Experience using MS Project or similar tool
