The opportunity
Lead enterprise accounting for a complex mortgage and real estate services business. You will oversee accounting, payroll and accounts payable, strengthen financial controls and deliver timely reporting across multiple entities.
This role requires substantial mortgage-servicing finance expertise and Controller-level experience. A background primarily in small banks or small mortgage businesses is not the target profile.
What you will lead
- Own month-end close, financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany balances and bank reconciliations.
- Oversee payroll, accounts payable, disbursement reviews and cash flow management, maintaining controls that help deter fraud.
- Serve as the primary contact for external financial auditors and coordinate multiple audits, regulatory reviews and financial reporting requirements.
- Work with third-party valuation firms on mortgage servicing rights and the associated accounting treatment.
- Document positions on current and emerging U.S. GAAP matters and review contracts to determine asset ownership and appropriate financial recognition.
- Support budgets, forecasts, debt reporting and lender covenant compliance.
- Improve accounting processes, controls and documented policies, working across the business to implement change.
- Lead, coach and develop the accounting team, including hiring, training and performance management.
What you will bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus a CPA or equivalent professional certification.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 10+ years in senior accounting within mortgage servicing and Controller-level responsibility.
- Proven people-management experience and the ability to lead accounting teams in a complex enterprise.
- Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, mortgage servicing rights valuation expertise and investor reporting knowledge, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae requirements.
- Experience with financial audits, internal controls, regulatory compliance, cash flow operations, cost structures and financial resource planning.
- Advanced accounting systems skills, experience with mortgage-servicing platforms and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, and strong Excel, Word and Outlook proficiency.
- Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to executive stakeholders and influence colleagues across functions.
- Strong analytical judgment, project management and attention to detail, with the ability to manage change and competing deadlines.
- Professional integrity, discretion with confidential information and a collaborative approach to team development.
