Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Lead Software Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership for a new mission area within a classified Department of Defense environment.
The successful candidate will lead delivery across software, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems engineering and mission stakeholders. This role requires extensive AWS application experience, strong API and software-integration expertise, and the ability to turn operational requirements into secure, scalable and reliable mission solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership across software-development and infrastructure teams.
• Collaborate with systems, cloud and cybersecurity engineers and mission stakeholders.
• Design, develop, integrate and maintain secure mission applications and services.
• Develop and support RESTful APIs, microservices and enterprise integration patterns.
• Integrate cloud-native services, databases and application components.
• Help transition research and prototypes into reliable operational software.
• Lead architecture, design reviews, troubleshooting and technical decision-making.
• Work hands-on with AWS, Linux, containers, CI/CD and automated testing.
• Apply secure-development and DevSecOps practices within classified environments.
• Investigate customer API issues and guide users toward effective resolutions.
• Support changing mission priorities, field assignments and operational needs.
• Document designs, interfaces, decisions, risks and operating procedures.
Required Qualifications
• Active TS/SCI security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to maintain the required clearance.
• Extensive software-engineering experience with hands-on technical leadership.
• Strong AWS application and cloud-infrastructure experience.
• Strong API design, development and integration experience.
• Experience with distributed systems, databases and modern application architectures.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, systems engineering and secure software delivery.
• Experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD practices.
• Strong communication, customer-facing and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite at Patrick Space Force Base.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in classified DoD, intelligence or national-security environments.
• Mission-software, space systems or operational-support experience.
• Infrastructure as Code, cloud automation and observability experience.
• Experience moving prototypes into production.
