The opportunity

Set the technical direction for pump and fluid platforms used in medical urine evacuation systems. You will own a multigeneration technology roadmap, helping product teams deliver measurable improvements in performance, power, sensing, reliability and user experience.

This is a platform architecture role rather than day-to-day component design ownership. You will define the standards, interfaces and technical decisions that teams can reuse across product releases.

What you will do

- Own the capability roadmap across fluid evacuation, battery power and charging, patient and canister interfaces, sensing, leak and fault detection, odor mitigation, acoustics, reliability and serviceability.

- Define staged capability targets, investment needs, decision points and success measures aligned to product releases.

- Establish modular architectures, interface standards, reference designs, reusable patterns and platform test methods; lead architecture reviews and technical change assessments.

- Guide pump mechanism selection, motor controls, fluid paths, power and charging, sensing and alarm architecture, including nuisance alarm reduction.

- Set vacuum, pressure and flow expectations, tubing and canister compatibility, filtration and consumable interfaces across dry and wet operating conditions.

- Work with manufacturing, supplier quality and supply chain on scale-up, yield, cost, component availability and supply continuity.

- Shape verification, validation and reliability testing, including representative use conditions, accelerated life testing, environmental stress and cleaning assumptions.

- Support design controls, risk management, human factors, manufacturing readiness and regulatory submissions.

- Use field feedback, complaints, service returns, supplier performance and reliability data to prioritize platform improvements and adoption across teams.

What you will bring

- BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

- 10+ years in electromechanical medical devices, portable pump systems, fluid management, regulated product development or platform-based development with reuse across releases.

- Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional technical strategy, beyond subsystem design or program execution.

- Strong systems thinking, platform architecture, trade studies, risk management, design controls, verification strategy, reliability engineering and supplier evaluation skills.

- Ability to influence engineering, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, commercial and program teams without direct authority.

Preferred experience

- Portable pumps, vacuum and fluid systems, battery-powered clinical or consumer devices, wet-environment sensors, acoustics, odor control and consumables.

- Motor controls, power management, charging, liquid-level sensing, occlusion and leak detection, fault handling and alarms.

- FDA-regulated medical devices, verification and validation, usability, complaint trending, sustaining engineering and regulated releases.

- Platform governance, architecture review boards, capability scorecards, reusable modules and technology roadmaps.

- Manufacturing scale-up, supplier strategy, cost reduction, serviceability and electromechanical lifecycle management.
