The Opportunity
A leading energy-technology organization is seeking a Process Controls Engineer to develop control-system solutions for gas-turbine and electric motor-driven compressor packages. This hands-on engineering role covers Balance of Plant controls, centrifugal-compressor anti-surge systems, PLC software and customer-facing technical delivery.
You will work closely with business, project and engineering teams to turn customer requirements into safe, practical and maintainable process-control solutions for demanding oil and gas applications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and document control strategies for Balance of Plant equipment and process-control systems supporting gas-turbine and electric motor-driven compressors.
Develop compressor anti-surge valve sizing calculations, system designs and technical specifications.
Create process-control schemes for centrifugal-compressor packages and associated auxiliary equipment.
Lead Balance of Plant design reviews with cross-functional engineering teams.
Provide technical expertise during customer design reviews, technical meetings and HAZOP discussions.
Design RSLogix PLC software and Windows-based HMI screens.
Interpret customer requirements and coordinate their implementation with project design engineers.
Review electrical schematics and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
Support testing, field activity and issue resolution throughout project delivery.
Travel domestically and internationally for up to 30% of working time.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
At least seven years of experience working with turbomachinery and centrifugal compressors.
Deep understanding of compressor process-control systems and typical oil and gas applications.
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply complex systems, tools and technical concepts quickly.
Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate technical issues and requirements for customers and stakeholders.
Ability to work onsite five days per week in San Diego County.
Current authorisation to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Experience
PLC programming using RSLogix and development of Windows-based HMI systems.
Compressor Balance of Plant equipment and yard-valve control programming.
Anti-surge control, valve sizing and compressor protection strategies.
Interpreting electrical schematics and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
Customer applications involving turbomachinery and centrifugal compressors.
Software testing and functional specifications for Balance of Plant equipment.
Field experience and direct customer engagement.
