Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact Interoperability & API Engineering team within a healthcare-focused environment.
This role is not purely managerial โ it requires a strong technical leader who can architect solutions, write production-quality code, and guide a team delivering scalable APIs, integrations, and AI/ML-enabled services.
You will operate at the intersection of cloud engineering, healthcare interoperability, and AI innovation, ensuring systems are secure, compliant, and built to scale.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Hands-On Engineering
Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of APIs, microservices, and integration pipelines
Act as the senior technical anchor for the team, contributing directly to:
System design
Coding
Troubleshooting complex issues
Code reviews
Build cloud-native solutions using Azure and containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
API & Integration Engineering
Design and develop REST and/or GraphQL APIs
Implement event-driven architectures and microservices patterns
Build integrations with internal and external systems, including healthcare platforms
AI, Automation & MLOps
Develop and implement AI/ML-enabled services and automation solutions
Build proof of concepts (PoCs) to validate new technologies before production rollout
Implement MLOps practices for model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement
Act as the escalation point for technical challenges and blockers
Drive engineering excellence and best practices across the team
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Product, Architecture, Cloud, and Security teams
Translate complex technical concepts into clear communication for stakeholders
Define solution strategies aligned with business and technical goals
Security, Compliance & Healthcare Standards
Ensure systems comply with:
HIPAA
PHI/PII data protection standards
Implement and support healthcare interoperability standards such as:
FHIR
HL7
EDI
Design secure authentication and authorization mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT, Entra ID)
Required Qualifications
8+ years of experience in software engineering
3+ years in a leadership role (Engineering Lead, Tech Lead, or Engineering Manager)
Strong hands-on experience with:
Python and/or Node.js
Microsoft Azure ecosystem
2+ years of experience with AI/ML technologies or AI integration frameworks
Experience building API-driven and integration-heavy systems
Experience in healthcare, interoperability, or regulated environments (required)
Technical Skills
Cloud: Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, API Management, Storage, Entra ID)
APIs: REST, GraphQL
Architecture: Microservices, event-driven systems
Security: OAuth2, JWT, identity management
Containers: Docker, Kubernetes
AI/ML: Azure AI, MLflow, Databricks, or similar platforms
Interoperability: FHIR, HL7, EDI (preferred)
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Engineering Manager who:
Balances technical depth with leadership capability
Has experience delivering API and integration platforms at scale
Is comfortable working in regulated environments (healthcare preferred)
Brings practical experience with AI/ML and cloud-native systems
Can mentor teams while actively contributing to architecture and development
Why This Role Stands Out
High-impact role directly influencing real-world healthcare outcomes
Opportunity to work at the intersection of cloud, APIs, and AI
Strong emphasis on hands-on engineering leadership, not just delivery management
Fully remote with meaningful technical ownership
