Summary

 

The Director of Surgical Services is accountable for the management and operation of Surgical Services which includes 7 surgical suites, PACU, and the Sterile Processing Department at Sierra Vista. The Director functions with initiative and appropriate independent judgment. The Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of interdisciplinary relationships between all levels of departmental personnel.   • Facilitates in the development and management of the care delivery process for designated nursing units or departments, ensuring that policies, procedures, standards of care, and standards of practice are consistent across the organization and with current nursing and clinical research and practice.

  • Incorporates the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and patient advocacy.

  • Collaborates with all levels of staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with appropriate medical staff/medical directors to establish service line goals that are consistent with the hospital’s mission and goals. Partners with physicians to ensure patient needs are identified and met; establishes effective working relationships with all key physicians; assists nursing management in establishing a collaborative practice model throughout nursing.

  • Assures the development and implementation of an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care, treatment, and services delivered.

  • Networks and collaborates across the healthcare industry to continually promote best practices in patient care delivery. Ensures patient care services are in compliance with JCAHO, Title 22, and other related regulatory agencies.

  • Ensures annual skill validation and proficiency of the clinical staff are completed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in nursing or bachelor's degree in nursing and master's degree in a relevant field of management, policy, or administration.

  • Upon hire: California Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed)

  • 10 or more years of Nursing experience, with 3 years in nursing administration

Responsible for coordinating clinical and non-clinical activities in Perioperative Services. Perioperative Services includes the following departments and services: Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Outpatient Surgery, GI Lab, Sterile Processing, Cath Lab, Surgery, Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Donor Network. Responsible for overall managerial direction and 24-hour accountability which includes planning, leading, organizing and controlling, as well as developing staff to fulfill the goals of each department and the mission of the hospital. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Required: Academic degree in nursing

  • Preferred: Bachelors or Masters degree

Minimum Experience/Skills:

  • Required: 2 Years of progressive management experience in a hospital environment as a manager or full-time charge nurse/related position

Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:

  • Current CA Registered Nurse license

  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA certified)

  • Certification in perioperative field strongly preferred

Pay range: $83.36 - $133.37

Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications and experience
