The opportunity

Shape the software and connectivity architecture behind connected medical devices. This senior technical role owns platform direction and a multigeneration capability roadmap across embedded software, applications, operating systems, product security and device-cloud integration.

You will guide reusable technology across targeted temperature management, endourology and urinary incontinence product families, working across engineering, quality, regulatory, cybersecurity, human factors and commercial teams.

What you will do

- Own the software and connectivity roadmap, defining staged maturity improvements, investment needs, decision points and measurable outcomes aligned to product releases.

- Establish architecture principles, modular platforms, reference architectures, interface standards and reusable design patterns across product families.

- Provide technical authority for architecture reviews and change control, including operating systems, GUI frameworks, wireless approaches, security and cloud integration.

- Set expectations for real-time behaviour, hardware abstraction, firmware updates, fault handling, diagnostics and service tools.

- Guide consistent user workflows, reusable UI components, clinical and service modes, usability and configuration management.

- Define BLE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and gateway architecture, including pairing, provisioning, offline operation, telemetry, APIs, identity, audit and interoperability.

- Set product-security requirements covering threat modelling, secure boot and updates, authentication, encryption, key management, SBOMs and vulnerability management.

- Improve lifecycle practices through code quality, static analysis, CI/CD, simulators, software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and automated regression.

- Support IEC 62304 strategy, risk controls, cybersecurity documentation, verification and regulatory submission readiness.

- Use customer feedback, complaints, defects, service data, usability findings and cybersecurity risks to prioritise improvements and drive adoption across teams.

Required experience

- BS or MS in Software, Computer, Electrical, Biomedical or Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

- 10+ years in embedded software, medical device software, regulated product development or software-enabled electromechanical systems, including platform reuse across releases.

- Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional software architecture strategy, beyond subsystem design or programme execution.

- Strong systems thinking, software architecture, risk management, design controls, cybersecurity and technology evaluation skills.

- Ability to influence multidisciplinary teams without direct authority.

Preferred experience

- IEC 62304, FDA-regulated medical devices, software risk management, product cybersecurity, usability and connected medical products.

- Embedded C/C++, RTOS or embedded Linux; GUI frameworks; mobile or companion applications; BLE, Wi-Fi and Ethernet; cloud APIs and telemetry.

- Test automation, static analysis, CI/CD, simulators, HIL/SIL testing and automated regression.

- Platform governance, architecture review boards, reusable modules and reference architectures spanning multiple product families.

- Hospital-connected systems, consumer-facing connected devices, capital equipment or electromechanical medical platforms.
